Life Story / Obituary


Our beloved Father, Son, Brother and friend SFC (Ret.) Roger Lee Johnson affectionally known as “Rooney”, age 54, fell asleep in Christ Monday, June 18, 2018.

He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on November 14, 1963 to Alfonzo & Rosie (Crowley) Johnson and graduated from Muskegon Heights High School. Shortly thereafter Roger enlisted in the US Army serving his country for 17 years. He was a highly decorated soldier who served his country well. He retired as Sergeant First Class in 1996 and relocated back to Muskegon, MI. While in Muskegon he rededicated his life to Christ an worshiped at both Upper Room Church Ministry and Christ Temple. He loved music and enjoyed fishing, camping, moon-gazing, the outdoors and watching sports where he was a big U of M and Lion's fan.

He leaves to cherish his memories: loving children Daughters, Ivory Johnson of Germany, Bre'ah Johnson of Chicago; sons, Jason Johnson of IL, Mathew Johnson of IL, Eric Johnson of IL, Roger Johnson Jr. of Muskegon; grandchildren, Alyric, Melodee, Keandre, Keshawn, Kelijah, Aleeyah, Alayah, Alaysia; mother, Rosie Lee Johnson of Muskegon; sisters, Minister Lorraine Williams, Barbara (James) Avery, Debra Johnson (Brent) ; brothers, Michael Johnson, Darwin Johnson; former spouse and dear friend, Yvette Johnson; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His father Alfonzo, sister Alma, brothers Curtis, Eddie and Alfonzo Jr. preceded him in death.


Saturday, June 23, 2018, 11:00 am at Upper Room Church Ministry with Rev. Jerry L. Riley Sr. officiating and Military Honors. Interment in Fort Custer National Cemetery.
