Donald L. Hendrie of Lakewood MI, formerly of Fremont MI, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2019. Born May 27, 1936 in Fremont MI, he was the son of Claude and Louise (Graves) Hendrie. His wife Kathryn M. Hendrie (McMahon) and daughter in law Linda Hendrie (Fox) preceded him in death.

Don was a very devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Left to cherish his memory are his sons and daughters and their families: Brad Hendrie, Bret and Laura Hendrie, Brian and Marcia Hendrie, Jodi Hendrie & Brad Fairchild, Patricia Hendrie and Thomas Potts and grandchildren Kortnye Thompson, Dylan Hendrie, Devon Midkiff, Braxtan Fairchild, Miles Fairchild, Connor Fairchild, Spencer Fairchild, Joseph Potts, and Linzie Potts as well as many nieces and nephews.

Don attended Central Michigan College (1955-1959). He left college to purchase The Nite Spot tavern with his wife Kathryn on May 15 1959. He was planning his 60th anniversary of owning the tavern at the time of his death. In his 60 years of being a pillar of Lakewood Club and Whitehall communities, he served in many capacities. He was a volunteer fireman for the Dalton Township Fire Department eventually becoming Assistant Chief. He finished his firefighter career by serving on the Muskegon County Arson Board. He served many years for Lakewood Club Village as the Recreation Director to help organize events and programs and as the President of the Whitehall Sports Booster Club. He was an exceptional athlete and loved to watch his children and grandchildren participate in sports. In the fall of 1978, he was able to complete a long time personal goal by becoming a jayvee football coach at Whitehall Schools. He remained a coach in the Whitehall School system until his retirement in 1994. He is remembered as Coach to those young men who had to privilege to learn from him. His love of football had him going to U of M football games for many years with some of his closest friends, Ron & Doreen Bekius and Jerry and Carol Jacobson, his children and grandchildren and many others. Don touched many lives through his business, his coaching and his community involvement. His will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.

Donald and Kathryn requested that their children host a celebration of life memorial service for them together. This celebration will take place on Saturday, May 18 at 1:00pm at The Nite Spot Tavern, 186 Kenwood, in Lakewood Club MI.
