Philip Michael Stoffan, age 70, of Muskegon, Michigan, died on October 9, 2018 surrounded by his family after a year long battle with cancer. Phil was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 17, 1947 to Michael and Violet (Alexander) Stoffan. He is the oldest brother of Michele Stoffan and Kathy Eckles. Phil graduated from St. Ignatius High School and then completed his Bachelor of Arts in Literature at Michigan State University. He went on to complete a Master of Arts in Secondary Education at Michigan State University as well as a Master of Business Administration at Eastern Michigan University. He met his wife Eileen Marie Bowman in 1978, and Eileen and Phil were married on November 17, 1979. Together they had four children. Phil worked in health care public relations and business consulting until he went back to school for his Juris Doctorate at the University of Maryland, and practiced law up until his death. He was a voracious reader and seeker of knowledge, and friends and family will greatly miss his wit and gentle and helpful nature. He enjoyed being with friends, watching college football and basketball (especially Michigan State University athletics), and playing golf, but most of all, Phil enjoyed being with his wife, children and grandchild.

SURVIVORS

Phil is survived by his wife, Eileen, and his four children: Alexander Philip Stoffan of Grand Rapids, MI, Merica Stoffan Dobry (Eric), of North Muskegon, MI, Peter James Stoffan of New York City, NY and Christian Edward Stoffan (Kristy Huysman) of Pittsburgh, PA. He leaves behind one granddaughter, Margaret Louise Dobry, age 2. He is also survived by his sisters Michele Stoffan (Bernie Atkins) and Kathy Eckles.
