Mr. Gene Roberts, age 76, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017. He was born in Magnolia, Arkansas on December 24, 1941 to the union of Turner Roberts & Erma Levelston. Gene was a 3 sport athlete in football, basketball and track at Muskegon High School. He also played semi-pro football on the Muskegon Bears team. Gene worked at Shaw Walker, Friendly Motors and the Urban League. Gene loved music and enjoyed bowling and golf and was very competitive. Gene was a coach and mentor in the school system. Gene was a lifelong advocate for human rights and equality for all. He retired after 20 years as General Manager for Walgreens in Houston, Texas. He returned to Muskegon and became a devoted member of Mount Zion Church of God in Christ. Gene will be missed by many.

He leaves to cherish his memories, sons, Gregory T. (Emily) Roberts of Muskegon, Troy (Felonice) Marsaw of TX; daughters, Terry Smith of TX, Jacquelyn Brown of Muskegon, Vivian (Isaiah) Kirksey of Muskegon, Victoria Watt of OH, Kasandra Ervin of Grand Rapids, Carla Marsaw of TX & Tonya (Anthony) Roberts-Ford of GA; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Roy (Maureen) Roberts of AZ, Larry (Lynnetta) Roberts of AR; sisters, Joyce Ann Dawson of NV, Dorothy Jean Walker of Flint; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers & 5 sisters.

SERVICE

Friday, January 5, 2018, 11:00 am at Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ, 188 W. Muskegon Ave. with Pastor Duane Bennett offficiating. Interment in Mona View Cemetery.
