Dr. William H. Bond, 93, of Muskegon, died Thursday, May 20, at his home surrounded loved ones. Born to Harold and Edna Jensen Bond, Bill graduated from Muskegon HS 1941 and attended local junior college before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1942. He graduated from Navigation/Bombardier Training July 1, 1944, and served his country as a Bombardier/Navigator on a B-25 in the Pacific, Africa & the occupational forces in Japan with the 822nd Bombardment Squadron during WWII.

Bill met the former Wilma Marie DeVette, of Erie, PA in 1940 in Muskegon and were married on July 7, 1944. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage.

After discharge from the AAC Bill earned degrees from UofM and attended Wayne State University Medical School, graduating in 1951, and completing 2 years of training as a pathologist. William then opened his medical practice located in his hometown of Muskegon. As a family practice physician, he served the residents of the area for 45 years with a majority of it at Norton Family Practice. While enjoying all aspects of his practice, his first love was assisting thousands of babies into the world. He was a member of many national, state & county medical societies & received numerous awards & accolades for his service.

Upon retirement, Bill aggressively pursued wildflower & nature related hobbies. He hunted, photographed, & catalogued wild flowers throughout the Muskegon area and produced an educational slide show that he presented throughout the area for 10 years. He was a Lake Watch & Hoffmaster State Park volunteer, counted frogs for the Nature Conservancy and volunteered together with Wilma at the Hackley Public Library.

Bill is survived by his 5 children and their spouses, Meredith (Lex Oversteegen) Biringham AL, Lindsay (John) Totten of PA, David (Lue Anne) Bond of Williamston, Matthew (Julie) Bond) Muskegon, Gilian Bond (John Thiel), Saginaw; 7 grandchildren Karmen, Adrienne, Abby, Andrew, William, Kendall, and Mason, and by 5 great grandchildren, Alexandra, Luke, Karley, Blaise, Harmon, Taylor & Meghan.
