Dr. John George Klemm Harvey MD, age 98, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2017. He was born in Wilmington, Delaware on June 7, 1919 to Morton & Edith Blandy (Klemm) Harvey. He attended Tower Hill School in Wilmington through the 8th grade and transferred to The Hill School, Pottstown, PA, graduating Cum Laude in 1938. While attending college, he was married in April, 1940 to the former Elsie Anne Davis of Germantown, PA. Klemm graduated Magma Cum Laude from Princeton University with the Class of 1942 and entered the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine under the Navy's V-12 program, graduating in 1945. After a year's internship at the Germantown Hospital in Philadelphia, he, with his family, served as a Lt.(jg) on active duty at the US Naval Air Station, Coco Solo, Panama Canal Zone from 1946 to 1948. Klemm received his residency training in Pathology in Wilmington and Presbyterian Hospital, Philadelphia, from 1948 to 1951. He was certified by the American Board of Pathology in 1951. After 4 years of pathology practice in Virginia, the Harvey family moved to Scenic Drive in Muskegon in the Spring of 1955 when he became Pathologist and Director of Laboratories for Mercy Hospital, retaining that position until leaving that position in 1966. Klemm was a member of White Lake Yacht Club where he raced very successfully in the E-Scow class. He was an avid duck and bird hunter, and chairman of the Muskegon-Ottawa Chapter of Ducks Unlimited for many years in the 1960's and 70's. His other recreational activities included retriever dog training and running retrievers in field trials, playing squash at the "Y", skiing, gardening, "big lake" fishing and listening to his extensive collection of classical music. He was a volunteer helper and librarian for the then-fledgling radio station WBLV. He served on the Board of Directors of the WMCA and The Muskegon Chapter of the American Red Cross for which he had been Medical Director of the blood bank.

SURVIVORS

Dr. Harvey is survived by his wife, Donna (Dahlstedt Kwolek) Sorenson to whom he was married September 18, 1999; a daughter, Sidney (Ginman) Burrows of Bratenahl, OH; a daughter, Joan (Harvey) Apostle of Muskegon; and a son, Charles Davis Harvey of Norton Shores; 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his step-son, Michael L. (Lori) Kwolek; his step-daughter-in-law, Sue Kwolek and his step-grandson, Andrew Chase Kwolek. Klemm was preceded in death by his brother, Morton Harvey of Wilmington, DE; brother, Henry Taylor of Islamorada, FL; his first wife, the late Anne (Davis) Harvey (Feb. 16, 1999); his daughter, Janet Waterman (Feb 16, 2006); step-son, Mark B. Kwolek (8/10/2006); sister, Edith B. (Taylor) Roberson of Salt Lake City.
