Life Story / Obituary
In loving memory of Dorothy (Dottie) Jean (Hutchings) Smith, born April 15,1937 and adopted and raised by Alec and Liesel Hutchings in Detroit, Michigan and passed away July 23, 2018 in the Harbor Hospice Poppen House, Fruitport, Michigan, at the age of 81 with her husband, Donald Eugene Smith I, of 64 years holding her hand.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Eugene Smith I, her son, Donald Eugene Smith II, her daughter Sharolyn DeAnn (Randy) Lutz, her son Mark Todd Smith, her sister Carolyn Cook, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Marie (at birth) and her son Rickie Lee Smith in 1998.
As a child she survived polio and tuberculosis.
When she was 16 years old she married Don, who was 18 years old at the time, and went on to have 5 children, one of which died at birth.
She taught herself to knit and crochet from books when she was just a child and she loved arts and crafts and counted cross stitch. She always had a camera in her purse ready to record a memory. She was a collector of Precious Moments figurines that she kept on display. Dottie had a wonderful sense of humor and not only loved to laugh but to make others laugh as well. She would always tell people, "Smile, it will make you feel better"! Her handwriting was beautiful, but you could never rush her to write a note because she was a perfectionist.
She was a strong woman. She loved being one of Jehovah's Witnesses and sharing her faith and hope for the future with others. She's now in Jehovah's memory waiting to be resurrected into a paradise earth and in perfect health.
She was loved and will be greatly missed but we will see her again soon!!
A memorial service will be held on August 25th at 2:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses', 11594 Wilson Ave, Coopersville, Michigan with a luncheon immediately following at Country Estates Mobile Home Park Community room at 14700 State Road, Spring Lake, Michigan.
