Clifford Johnson, age 86, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born in Muskegon, MI. on December 4, 1929 to Arnold Johnson and Agnes (Kristiansen) Johnson. On July 18, 1959, he married Susan Ernst, and she survives him. During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Zellars DD-777. He also graduated from Western Michigan University in 1958 with a bachelor of business administration and accounting. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the State of Michigan Insurance Bureau as Chief Field Examiner. Mr. Johnson was a member of The Viking Lodge and The Sons of Norway. Cliff enjoyed taking morning walks, buying and trading stocks, playing golf, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Annette (Kirk) Vetter, Karen (Eric) Wahlberg, five sons: Robert (Dolores), Cliff Jr., James (Elisabeth), Lawrence (Lauren), Jason (Nia), and five grandchildren: Jacob, Sam, Azzie, Astrid, and Otis. He was preceded in death by two brothers Arnold (Bob) Johnson (Toshiko), Jack Johnson (Barbara), and one sister Carmen Slocum (Burl). He is also survived by many sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Per his wishes there will be no funeral service or visitation. A private memorial celebrating his life will be held at a later date.
